A major factor in having a balanced lower face is the size and shape of the chin. A variety of different chin size and shape issues can throw the proportions of the face off including: a small chin, a short chin, a narrow or wide chin, asymmetric chin shape, as well as an overly large chin. Fortunately, chin shaping is one of the safest and most reliable cosmetic procedures available today.

Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation or genioplasty is a procedure to correct and reposition the chin either through surgery of the bone or placement of a small implant. Chin augmentation surgery can often be performed through an incision inside the mouth, concealing the scar completely. In other cases, the scar is hidden underneath the chin. In some patients, the changes can be performed through reshaping of the chin bone itself, and in others, a small implant is placed to enhance the size of the chin, creating a more balanced appearance of the face.
In either case, Scottsdale plastic surgeon Dr. Repta will discuss your options and goals with you, determining which surgical route is best for you. This will allow you to better understand your options and decide which chin-shaping procedure is best for you.
“Double Chin” Surgery
For some patients, no matter how much they exercise or diet, they just can’t seem to get rid of the double chin. Fortunately there is a minimally invasive and effective solution for getting rid of the infamous “double chin.”
To reduce a double chin, Dr. Repta will first make a tiny incision under the chin, through which he will insert a small stainless steel tube known as a cannula, allowing him to suction out excess fat from the chin area. This procedure can be performed with a local anesthetic if desired and is considered minimally invasive, making it very appealing for many patients.
For such a simple procedure, the results are truly incredible, often taking years off a patient’s appearance.
Recovery
No matter what route is taken to enhance the chin, it is common for patients to experience some bruising and swelling in the area and it is recommended that patients rest for the first few days, keeping the head elevated. Depending on which procedure is done, full recovery can take anywhere from one to three weeks. Dr. Repta and his staff will discuss in detail your exact recovery route, assisting you to heal as swiftly as possible.
